WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN ARRIVING IN RAJA AMPAT
SORONG AIRPORT
As you exit the Airport Building through the sliding doors, you will be greeted by many locals offering taxi services. The Meridian Adventure Driver in Sorong is named Jujun, he will be wearing a Grey Polo Shirt and Black Pants and will be holding a Meridian Adventure Sign. Jujun’s English is limited, although has a good basic understanding of what you say. He will ask you to stand by the side of the road on the platform and wait for him to bring the car over to load your bags and get in the car.
ATM
If you would like to withdraw money, there is an ATM as you exit the Airport building to the left.
FERRY
Upon arrival at the ferry dock, Jujun will ask you to stay in the car and enjoy the air-conditioning while he collects your tickets (Tickets can only be collected on the day of travel). Once you have your tickets, you will find the ferry that transits from Sorong to Waisai is located down the dock alongside the end of the Pier. Jujun cannot go further than the boom gate to the dock, so he will leave you once he has handed over the ferry tickets. There are a number of Ferry Crew that will be available to assist you to pass your bags from the dock onto the ferry when you board.
The ferry company is Express Bahari. The ferry number is indicated on the ticket and the displayed on the side of the ferry (it’s quite large – so you can’t miss it). The tickets purchased are VIP. The VIP this section is up the stairs on your left as you step inside the boat. On the first landing, there is a door to the VIP section. Most often as you board the person checking the tickets will indicate where to go to find your seat, the seat number is also noted on the ticket next to the ferry number.
NOTE: The ferry terminal is about 10mins from the Airport, if your flight arrives early and you would like to stop for a bite to eat or a coffee before going to the ferry, please let the resort know prior to arrival. The ferry departs daily at 9 am and 2 pm. It is advised to get to the ferry terminal 30mins prior to departure, so you have enough time to collect your ticket and walk down the dock to the ferry.
ARRIVAL IN WAISAI
As you enter the ferry port in Waisai you will be able to see the Meridian Adventure Marina to the right of the port. The Meridian Adventure Driver in Wasiai is named Wawaan, he will be wearing a Grey Polo Shirt and jeans and will be holding a Meridian Adventure Sign. He will try and meet you as you get off the ferry, so keep an eye out as soon as you depart the ferry. He will take you to the car and drive you to the reception at the Resort, which is a short 5 mins from the ferry terminal.
